Gearing up for School

Gearing up for School

At D&R Autoworks, we care about more than just cars. We care about the people inside them. That’s why, this month, we’re taking a break from talking about belts, engines and alignment to help our customers prepare for the biggest event of the month: the return to school! Since the first bell won’t ring for a few weeks, now is the time to make sure all of the pieces are in place. If you’re a veteran parent, you’re likely familiar with the routine, but for those who are new to the process, there can be a lot to remember, including a few things you might not have considered. And, even if you are a seasoned pro, it never hurts to review! In order to make the process easier, we at D&R are sharing a checklist that outlines a few items you’ll want to keep in mind as the big day draws near. Implement school bedtimes now. Road Wisdom for Parents of Teens

Road Wisdom for Parents of Teens

We know it’s not something you want to hear, but it’s a statistic that has to be shared. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States accounting for more than one in three fatalities in the age group. In fact, recent data shows that eight teens die every day from injuries sustained in car accidents in the U.S. A variety of factors contribute to the high number of teen crashes including inexperience, distraction, alcohol and the refusal to wear seat belts. Cell phones, text messages, friends and substances create potentially dangerous situations for teens behind the wheel, and parents need to address each situation with their kids before letting them take to the streets. We know it can be difficult to find the balance between being over-protective and appropriately cautious when it comes to parenting, but driving is serious business. And, because of the high ... read more

The Importance of Routine Maintenance

You hear it over and over again—how important it is to have regular car maintenance. But, unless you have been properly informed, you may not have the first clue as to what is involved and why it’s even important at all. Well, wonder no more! This week, we are highlighting the basics of routine maintenance and why it’s a critical part of maintaining the life of your vehicle. The first subject to address is what is involved in routine maintenance. While there’s no blanket checklist that covers all types of vehicles, there are certain standard procedures that should be performed monthly, quarterly, twice a year and annually. Some of the more critical elements include frequent oil changes, fluid check-ups, tire pressure evaluations, hose and belt inspections, battery life evaluations, brake checks and the replacement of common elements like wiper blades. For a comprehensive list of services your specific vehicle needs, turn to your car manufacturer. By visiting th ... read more

Safety First

Back in the old days, safety kits were fairly common features in cars. Drivers would carefully select important items that they’d need in any emergency situation and pack them away in their trunks or under a seat. That way, if they were ever stranded or in an accident and needed immediate attention, they would be prepared. Today, however, with the use of cell phones and satellites, those safety kits have all but disappeared. And we’re not so sure that’s a good thing. According to research, the number of stranded motorists continues to increase every year. And while cell phones are incredibly helpful, they won’t be able to rescue you in the event of bad weather or an accident, nor will they be able to provide immediate first aid. That’s why, for your own safety and that of your loved ones, it’s important to have a few essentials with you that can meet immediate needs when help is not readily available or accessible. The basic elements of any safety kit addre ... read more
