Asleep at the Wheel

They’re constantly on the go, busy with school, sports, homework, jobs, friends and any number of extracurricular or volunteer activities. They are your teenagers, and they’re doing the best they can to prepare for life in a tough world and get a leg up on the future. And, if they’re not careful, they’ll run themselves ragged sacrificing on healthy living habits in order to achieve and do more. One of the first things to go in a teenager’s schedule is sleep. And, unfortunately, when this becomes a habit, it’s more than just their health that suffers; it’s their performance in every area from school to athletics to–yes–driving. According to research from Liberty Mutual Insurance and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), teens who average less than eight hours of sleep a night are twice as likely to report falling asleep behind the wheel than those who had receive eight or more. Back in the Swing!

Back in the Swing!

School’s back in session once again, and we can almost hear the sounds. Groans from kids who miss the summer, bells ringing in crowded hallways, lockers slamming, computers clicking, and parents everywhere singing a hallelujah chorus. It’s a mixture of chaos and excitement, and it’s one of the liveliest times of year. In an effort to help our customers who have kids make it through the first week or two of school, we at D&R Autoworks want to offer a few tips that can help take the stress out of the new routine. This will help alleviate stress and lessen the opportunity for confusion and conflict ... read more

School Crosswalk Safety

School Crosswalk Safety

It’s hard to believe that school will be starting in just a few days. As usual, summer flew by and we’ve found ourselves on the brink of another exciting semester! Kids everywhere are excited to use their new school supplies, and parents are grateful to have a little silence back in the house. At D&R Autoworks, we love our students and want to make sure they are safe and prepared for the year ahead. That’s why this month we’ve been blogging about matters other than auto issues. Instead, we’ve been doing what we can to help parents and kids get ready for school by using our car-minded wisdom to help prepare them for the year ahead. This week, we’re talking about crosswalk safety. Many schools have crossing guards who help kids make it from one side to the other, but that doesn’t always prevent disaster. Inattentive motorists, disobedient children and basic random accidents make crosswalks a place where there is always the potential for danger. With a littl ... read more

Gearing up for School

Gearing up for School

At D&R Autoworks, we care about more than just cars. We care about the people inside them. That’s why, this month, we’re taking a break from talking about belts, engines and alignment to help our customers prepare for the biggest event of the month: the return to school! Since the first bell won’t ring for a few weeks, now is the time to make sure all of the pieces are in place. If you’re a veteran parent, you’re likely familiar with the routine, but for those who are new to the process, there can be a lot to remember, including a few things you might not have considered. And, even if you are a seasoned pro, it never hurts to review! In order to make the process easier, we at D&R are sharing a checklist that outlines a few items you’ll want to keep in mind as the big day draws near. Implement school bedtimes now. Letting the kids stay up for Letterman during the summer was probably a great way to relax the routine, but when the school year begins, yo ... read more
