Encinitas Auto Repair

4

I brought my 2010 Prius in for a pre-sale inspection today. Moonlight Motors was half the price of other shops in Encinitas and less than 30% of what Toyota Carlsbad wanted to charge. They got me in quickly, did the job thoroughly and swiftly, and were friendly to deal with. I'd recommend friends to take cars here and grabbed a few cards to share with colleagues.

My car had been towed to Moonlight Motors at least twice now and I think my review is overdue. My car was first towed in December of 2011 and Marty had taken care of my questions with direct answers including a quote which he called me with after they found what was wrong with the car. My car was ready within a day for pick up and I was able to go to work the next day. They said my 2001 Montero Sport needed a new alternator and a battery. They also let me know that there's an oil leakage that could be causing the belt and battery problems but it might not be worth it to replace the belt because the car itself isn't worth that much.A few months later, my car was acting funny and died in the parking lot at the grocery store a couple times. They told me the car still have the oil leak but they're not sure if it's all that is. They changed the battery since the battery and labor were still under warranty and I didn't had to pay anything. In the recent months, my car refused to start and I had to have it towed again to Moonlight Motors. They again changed the battery since it was just under the last month or so of warranty. I didn't had to pay anything and the car was ready for pick up by the end of the day. They didn't push for a new belt or whatever, which I appreciate because the car is really not worth fixing. I'd rather fix the small stuff and ride it until it falls apart. I appreciate Marty being thoughtful that he stayed open so I can pick up my car because I couldn't get out of work until late. I also appreciate him not pushing it because it would have been ridiculous to spend as much money (or more) on a car that isn't worth too much. I think he understood I just wanted it to last for however long because I just want to get from point A to point B and not kill me on the freeway.

I got sick of spending an entire day to get my oil changed at the dealership, so I looked went to Moonlight Motors, where I had had some engine work done a couple of years ago. I am never going back to the dealership. Moonlight Motors took me the same day. I didn't have to wait in line to drop off my car, or to get it back. It was done in under an hour, and because it's situated in Leucadia, I just walked to Whole Foods and got breakfast. Next time I'm going to go running while they're working on it. I think I dealt with the owner and he was super nice. He didn't try to upsell me or find other "problems" with my car. The price was comparable to what I pay at the dealership, but the experience is a 100 times more pleasant!

Found these guys on Yelp and i've been happy with them! Taken my car twice for (different) issues. Adam and Marty are always helpful, polite and don't treat me like I don't know anything. They explain thoroughly what my car needs and don't try and upsell me. When they give suggestions on what maintenance I need, they understand when I say I can't afford everything at once. I will continue to bring my car here!

Moonlight Motors was a great find. They work on my car, my wife's car and my mother's car. The service has been excellent. I highly recommend them.On one occasion my battery died. It happened close to home and I had an appointment to get to. So I walked home to get wife's car. Then went to my appointment. When I finished my appointment I called Moonlight Motors. Marty sent two guys to meet me where I had abandon the truck. They got it going and took it back to the shop. The problem was fix. Moonlight Motors made something that could have been a big trouble easy. They are guys we trust and appreciate.

I visited Moonlight motors when my wife's car started experiencing some issues. I picked them based on their Yelp reviews and hoped I wouldn't get taken. It wasn't an inexpensive service. We had to have a replacement done on some computer - and it stung. I called a dealership to price check what they would charge and it was pretty comparable - so I was content.I came back several months later with another issue, I had feared the same one - but after checking it out and testing it - it appeared to be a dirty sensor that was an easy fix, just difficult to pinpoint on the problem. I expected to pay a nice chunk, but when I called to ask about the cost, they said they would only charge $40 for the time it took. I considered that to be very fair and will continue to go back to Moonlight Motors for my maintenance.

My wife and I both have been taking our cars to Moonlight for a few years now. I thought of them in high regards before today, but they found a way to raise the bar. I had them do an oil change a month ago, and the oil filter gasket busted leaking oil everywhere and making the car undriveable. I gather this is a pretty rare occurrance, and I don't know if it was the shop's fault, but they took care of all of the clean up and repair free of charge. I didn't expect nor ask for that, and they could have easily done otherwise. Honest mechanics aren't hard to find if you know where to look!

I was referred to Moonlight Motors by the AAA tow truck guy. He said his family does business next to them and that they were honest and did great work. He seemed sincere so after the dealer's estimate of $800+ for my 2006 Toyota Corolla S I took it to Moonlight. They were very friendly, straight forward and knew what they were doing. I had serpentine belt changed, throttle body cleaned, transmission fluid done, oil changed, rear brakes done and an inspection of the exhaust. They finished this all in one day. The bill came out to $440.00, HALF the cost of the Toyota dealer! They are upfront about their charges, didn't try to up-sell me on anything and they clearly list their hourly rate on the invoice, along with the actual time it took to do the work...and the hourly rate is pro-rated. Drive belt, .55 hrThrottle body clean, .60hrTrans Service, .80hrRear brakes, 1.80hrInspection, .20hrOil change, .11hrAll very honest in my opinion...you can't do an oil change much faster than about 7 minutes which is around what they billed for. Same with all the other services. They had about 3 Porsche's they were working on so people must trust them locally with their expensive cars. I've definitely found my regular shop!
